Rainy Day Malaise

Since, I don't have any outfit photos for you today because of the rain, and I'm too lazy to do anything else, I have put together a few street style pictures from el internet. Enjoy!

Horrible quality, but I LOVE his pants. 

Money has always posed an issue for many people, and, as a result, people are forced to make choices... Do I want the Gucci loafers or the Burberry trench? And which one is going to pay for itself by cost per wear? I can wear the loafers all year round, and the trench two of four seasons (three if you don't get cold in the winter or live in a more mild location than New York). Decisons, decisions. Alright, I'll get both, I won't go out to dinner, and I'll live off of Cup of Noodles for a month. That would be my rationale behind lavish purchases if I wasn't still living under my parents' roof. To each his own. 

Like everyone else, I pick up ten dollar shirts and twenty dollar sweaters often. They don't last a season, and they don't stand up to the countless winters that Ralph Lauren cables do. Unless you have the money to not think twice when buying a Louis Vuitton duffel bag, you probably don't have a closet full of designer clothes. So you mix n' match all the damn time. And that, to me, is the real trick in dressing. Pairing low-end items with your most-prized pair of shoes. Your Hermes tie with an H&M shirt (which I don't recommend you do). Your Rolex with a leather band. The combinations are endless!

This week I'll mix n' match my clothes for y'all.

Casual Saturday

Happy Saturday, y'all! Some of you loyal readers who have been with me from le beginning might remember my fervent promise of doing a collection of  "Casual Friday" posts. Well, I didn't... shoot me.  I just haven't had time to take pictures during the week chu know? SO I'm doing one, on Saturday, to make up for all of the Friday posts I missed. 

As you can see, I am clad in a linen shirt, my Summer staple. I feel like that post was a good one. So, I'm going to give you another staple, and if you don't want it, then you can leave I guess. Drum roll please...... THE BOAT SHOE. Sperry is one of the most iconic brands in the industry, and they're super interesting when you think about it. I mean their marketing has done a complete 180 degree turn. Boat shoes were traditionally intended for the crew on a boat or ship because their light rubber soles didn't leave marks on the white decks. Slowly but surely they made their way into the Rockport collection, which was marketed towards old men who wanted comfortable shoes that were easy to slip on and off. Now in 2013, they are probably one of the most practical popular shoes on the market. Cool lacrosse kids have converted from basketball sneakers to boat shoes. The world of prep has definitely made an entrance, and she's here to stay. If you don't already have a pair, I strongly recommend you get one. They go with everything, they're super comfortable, and they clean up your outfit. If you're older than 25 and you wear your flip flops out to dinner with shorts and a button down in the summer, get up now, go to the store and buy a pair. You NEED them. *end of rant*

The Warm Weather Staple

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you THE spring/summer staple--the linen shirt! For yo convenience, I have put together three outfits with the blue table cloth all for different occasions. Enjoy...

Outfit 1: The hardworker who winds down on the weekends to be with his kids or drink Coronas on the beach...you tell me.

 As someone who spent the first seventeen years of his life predominantly behind the camera, stepping in front was a bit of a challenge. I gave myself a list of three criteria needed to make a photo "post-worthy": 

1. Let mah character shine through (CHECK)

2. Wear some rockin' garb (check)

3. Try mah hardest to look skinny. (shit)

I think we all know the type of person who would wear this. 1. A kid like me who doesn't throw on his Nike's and basketball shorts every time he leaves the house and strives to look somewhat decent on a daily basis. 2. The twenty-six to forty-year-old business man who takes off on Sundays to spend time with his family and friends. 

Outfit 2: The New Yorker in The Hamptons on Memorial Day Weekend who drives a Range Rover... probably. 

The white jean has long been a confusion for both men and women. For women, when can I wear it? For men, am I allowed to? I say YES ten times over. White is such a versatile color, and it's a fresh take on the classic summer chino for men. Contrary to popular belief, they are masculine. They're perfect for going to a BBQ, out to dinner, or going on errands. They'll slowly but surely become one of your basics. However, while we're on the topic of basics/staples, I think there is something really ironic and quirky about them. I'm not talking about white tees and navy blazers, but the things that are your basics (i.e. military boots) are things that three or four years ago you could have never pictured yourself wearing, but now they're your most worn-in shoe. Bowties are another one. I mean, for years we have associated the bowtie with the iconic characters of Pee Wee Herman and Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor, but now we tie one happily with a pair of jeans and a crisp white shirt. Funny how the world  spins, isn't it? Could it be that the people we call nerds, geeks, and the freaks of our generation are actually the fashion prophets for the generations to come? We will never know. 

Outfit 3: The prep who plays polo, went to Princeton, and lives for the Kentucky Derby.

Last but, not least dress up your linen shirt. Hell, do what I did and do linen on linen, if you think you can pull it off. I'm going to a Derby Party and I think I'll wear this. Greatest part? You can throw a sweater over your shoulders and pretend to be an Italian walking along a dock in Venice. How is it that, in some cultures, simple touches like draping a sweater over your shoulders becomes mainstream? In America, the sweater drape has become a fashion (we can't really call it a trend because it came and never left) reserved for the wealthy to wear. But eff that. Let everyone wear it. The only problem is the reason Italians can pull it off is they have the benefit of swarthy good looks, stubble they grew in the last six hours, and a vintage Vespa..... so we don't have a chance.
